Physical works on the Whakatāne District Council water main renewal project begins this week. Water mains in the affected areas were identified as requiring replacement after reaching the end of their expected service life.
The first phase of the project includes McGarvey Road from Landing Road to Peace Street. Other locations in the project include Amokura Place, Lakeview Place and John Laughton Place in Whakatāne, and Kauri Street and a section of Kowhai Street in Edgecumbe.
Contractors will begin work in McGarvey Road this week, after the start date was delayed due to COVID-19 alert level restrictions. This phase of the project is scheduled during the school holiday period to alleviate some traffic management impacts in the area.
Minor diversions and water shutdowns will be in place during some stages of the project, and affected residents will be informed via post.
The project was budgeted for in the Long Term Plan 2018-2028.
