Long Term Plan - Te Mahere Pae Tawhiti

Planning Our Future

The Long Term Plan (LTP) is the Council’s main planning document. It outlines what Council plans to do over a 10-year period, why we plan to do it, how much it will cost, and who will pay. It explains how the Council intends to contribute to community well-being and identifies how progress will be monitored. It provides a picture of everything the Council is doing and how those things fit together – a road map of what the Council is doing and why.

The LTP is one of the Council’s most important documents. The overall objective is to deliver an affordable and balanced response to the District’s environmental, social, cultural and economic well-being.

LTPs are required by law and are prepared every three years in consultation with the public. They provide an opportunity for democratic, local decision-making. Community consultation is a key element of the LTP process.
