Whakatāne Wharf

Whakatāne Wharf is a busy hub for maritime activity and the main gateway to Whakatāne District's stunning waters. Whakatāne Wharf offers a range of facilities designed to cater to both recreational and commercial needs, including wharves, commercial berths, and convenient moorings, perfect for boating enthusiasts and fishermen alike. Hardstand

A hardstand is available - the cost is $75 per night for a maximum of 10 nights, with a $105/day penalty rate applying after 10 days. It must be booked in advance. You can book by calling Council on 07 306 0500, or filling out this form. 

Users must ensure no contaminants enter the environment. Whakatāne District Council must be notified at time of booking of any intended boat maintenance that includes pressure washing, metal grinding, or use of expoxy or fuel.  Failure to do so may result in enforcement action. Please note, all spray painting is prohibited.

Whakatāne Boat Wash

Boat wash now open

A boat wash service (water wash only) is available at the Whakatāne Boat Ramp on Muriwai Drive, Whakatāne. This service provides boat owners with a convenient way to clean their boats and trailers, protecting them and our roads from saltwater corrosion.

How to use

  1. Drive through to yellow and black bollardWhakatāne Automated Boat Wash Station
  2. Select your option: $4 (2.5 minutes) or $2 (1 minute)
  3. Tap your Paywave card or device
  4. Once wash starts, drive forward slowly
  5. EXIT to your left

Terms of use

  • All users must comply with Whakatāne District Council’s Consolidated Bylaws 2008 Part 14 Ports and Wharves, Ports and Wharves Bylaw 2018 - (PDF, 900 KB)
  • Users are responsible for insuring their vessel, equipment and other property against loss or damage. Whakatāne District Council is not liable for any damage to any vessel or vehicle while using the boat wash facility.
  • The maximum width for vehicles, boats and trailers using the boat wash is 3 meters. Please check you do not exceed this before entering the boat wash facility.

Dredging

Vessel based dredging and long reach excavation will be occurring within the Whakatāne Bar and river entrance from 1 November 2024 to 30 June 2025. Please give the dredge 50m separation and use low speed when passing. Contact Coastguard on VHF 18 if you require assistance. For further information contact Council on  07 306 0500 or the Maritime Officer on 0800 5 knots.
