Live Council Meetings

You can view the current or next scheduled live stream meeting below or by visiting our YouTube channel.

Reading the agenda during the live stream

Meeting agendas and supporting documentation are available in the Meetings and Agendas section of our website.

What does 'We're on a break' involve?

Sometimes you'll see the 'We're on a break' screen during the live stream or recording. This could mean it's morning tea time (usually 15 minutes) or lunch (usually 30 minutes). It could also mean the meeting has gone into a 'public excluded' section of the agenda, which is harder to estimate time-wise. Reasons why something might be public excluded could be that the agenda item:

  • prejudices the maintenance of the law (including the right to a fair trial)
  • protects the privacy of any person
  • includes commercial confidentiality or legal privilege.

Keep checking back - the live stream will be available again as soon as possible.

Issues with the stream?

There could be technical difficulties during a live stream. We'll do our best to keep things on track. However, if the expected stream is unavailable or stops during a meeting, a recording may be available and we will upload it as soon as possible.

If you're having trouble viewing the stream, visit YouTube help to troubleshoot any errors.

We appreciate your feedback, you can email governance@whakatane.govt.nz.

Missed a meeting?

Once a live stream has finished, the recording will be available to watch later on our YouTube channel.

Live streaming of Council meetings and your privacy

In the interests of making our decision-making process transparent and accessible, most public Council meetings are broadcast live online and then made available on our website and YouTube Channel. If you are presenting or attending a council meeting, you will know which meetings are being filmed as there will be a sign clearly stating this before you enter the meeting room. Most of the filming will cover elected members as they speak and debate at the meeting. However, the filming may also include shots of the public in the background and of anyone speaking at a public forum.
