All those ideas and don’t know what to do with them? Time is running out to throw your hat in the ring for the 2022 Whakatāne District Elections.
Nominations for a seat at the table are currently open and close 12noon sharp this Friday, 12th August.
Governance Manager Cindy Butt is encouraging passionate locals and lovers of our rohe to walk the talk, e-tū and stand for one of the roles up for grabs.
“We know how easy it is to be a keyboard warrior or a couch critic. It’s much harder to take the bold step of putting yourself forward, standing for Council and putting those ideas in to action.”
Cindy adds, “The time for sitting back is over, now is the time to be the change you want to see. Put that passion in to action, fill out your paperwork today and trial for the team.”
Cindy urges anyone who is on the fence with their decision to stand makes the call sooner rather than later to prevent missing out on the opportunity.
“The nomination paperwork can be a bit of a curly process. The last thing we want is for a potential candidate to miss out because of incorrect details on their paperwork, or not completing it in time.”
“We need as many people as possible putting their hands up this election – don’t leave it too late.”
To be eligible to stand for election, a candidate must be a New Zealand citizen, 18 years or older, enrolled, and nominated by two people whose names appear on the electoral roll within the Whakatāne District.
