Capital Collection: The Eastern Bay Edition is a Whakatāne Museum exhibition selected from Wellington City’s Art Collection, with each work chosen by members of our community. The idea was fostered and made possible by Laura Woodward, who is in charge of Wellington’s significant permanent art collection. The Museum tam is delighted to be hosting her for this gallery talk, which will delve into the broader Wellington City collection, its history, the diverse items represented, and how this new partnership came about.
Come along and enjoy Laura’s insights as a kaitiaki of the Capital’s ever-expanding collection, which includes Mayoral portraits, textiles, photography, painting, and works by some of New Zealand’s most well-known artists. She will also discuss the behind-the-scenes work involved in the establishment and maintenance of a major art collection. To conclude her talk, Laura will single out her favourite work in our Main Gallery, and share her reasons.
