Neighbours Day 2018 in Whakatāne looks set to be a 'fun-fest', with heaps of free activities planned for a special event at Allandale School this weekend.
Coordinated by Whakatāne Ki Mua, the Neighbourhood Support and The Events Network Trust, the event will run from 10am till 2pm on Saturday, 24 March and organiser Rebecca Mackay says anyone who wants to celebrate Neighbours Day 2018 should come along and join in the fun.
"There'll be something for all the whanau to enjoy, from bike riding on the pump track, to a bouncy castle, fire engine rides and crafts activities," she says. "The school pool will be open for swimming, with the Whakatāne Aquatic Centre lifeguards on hand to make sure everyone’s safe, and you can join in a fire hose rolling competition led by Whakatāne Fire Service volunteers. And there’s even a free sausage sizzle to help ward off any hunger pangs."
Other activities include a chalk festival, softball nets, and community organisations like the Sullivan Lake Care Group, Girl Guides and Eastern Bay Villages providing information about their activities. The Whakatāne-Ōhope Community Board will also be providing information and feedback opportunities on the District’s 2018-28 Long Term Plan; and the Project Taiao team will be talking about their plans for a new playground in Kopepeo.
"Special thanks go to Allandale School for hosting this event, and to all of the groups involved in delivering the Neighbours Day fun,' Ms Mackay concludes.
