Keep New Zealand Beautiful is once again asking Kiwis to ‘do the right thing' and come together to make a collective difference by getting involved in this year’s Clean Up Week.
This annual community pride initiative inspires groups and individuals from all over Aoteaora to actively participate in cleaning up their local community.
Clean Up Week is New Zealand’s largest movement against litter. This nationwide event focuses the community’s attention on how much litter is polluting our environment. Last year volunteers helped to remove over 655 tonnes of litter nationwide, across an area equivalent to 5,751 rugby fields.
This year Keep New Zealand Beautiful is pushing for all participants to take a climate conscious approach to Clean Up Week by encouraging groups to organise their own reusable and sustainable cleanup kits using everyday items such as buckets and gardening gloves.
Clean Up Week is supported in partnership with Waste Management, Enviro NZ, and many councils throughout New Zealand together with the generous support from sponsors.
The Whakatāne Resource Recovery Centre at 60 Te Tahi Street will accept rubbish free of charge from any groups that register their clean up event. Proof of registration from Keep New Zealand Beautiful will need to be presented to the kiosk operator on arrival.
