Whakatāne District Council is at Level 2 of New Zealand’s four-level COVID-19 alert system.
The Council's Pandemic Planning Team has been preparing for a scenario like this. The Council is keeping a close watch on developments and is following the advice and operational recommendations of the government.
At Level 2 most Council facilities and venues remain open to the public. This includes customer service centres, museums, swimming pools, halls, sports fields, playgrounds and libraries.
Physical distancing and contact tracing measures will be in place, along with safe hygiene practices. The number of people using Council facilities will be limited, in line with Level 2 guidelines.
Open spaces and parks will be open, but everyone must use the two-metre physical distancing rule when accessing these places. Keep your dog on a lead at all times.
