Can’t decide whether or not to stand at this year’s Whakatāne District elections? The upcoming Candidate Information Hui are here to help give you the gentle push you need.
As part of the Be a Gamechanger / Auahatia ngā rā e tatū iho nei’ campaign, Whakatāne District Council is hosting two candidate information sessions this week where gamechangers keen to stand for Council, Mayor or Community Boards, can pick the brains of Council staff.
Governance Manager Cindy Butt says the hui are the perfect way for potential candidates to learn more about the election process and the roles of Councillor or Mayor.
“These information evenings are a really good way to pick the brains of Council staff and get a good feel for the election process, and for what’s actually involved in the day-to-day mahi, prior to throwing your hat in the ring.”
Cindy adds, “Our communities’ needs are diverse, and it’s vital our Council representatives reflect the ever-changing needs of the communities we serve.” “So, we encourage you to head along, have your questions answered, and get that little push you might need to e-tū, stand for Council and put your passion in to action.”
For those considering standing in the Whakatāne, Tāneatua or Rangitāiki rohe, the closest information hui will be held tomorrow, 26th July at 5.15pm in the Whakaari Meeting Room at the Eastbay REAP offices on Pyne Street, Whakatāne.
For those in the Murupara, Galatea or Ruatāhuna rohe, the closest information hui will be held Thursday, 28th July at 5.15pm in the Murupara Service Centre on Pine Drive, Murupara.
