Whakatāne Libraries and Galleries staff are pleased to announce they have secured access to PressReader, an online platform with more than 6,000 digital newspapers and magazines from around the world.
Coordinator Collections and Content, Christine Whalley, says PressReader is part of the New Zealand Libraries Partnership Programme and a real coup for the Whakatāne District.
“Anyone can get full, free access to the entire PressReader catalogue within the library,” she explains. “To access PressReader at home or anywhere outside the library, you just need to sign in with your library card. If you’re not a library member, you can sign up online as a digital member through the website or call into one of the four facilities across the district – it costs nothing.”
A massive range of newspapers and magazines from around the world are available in full colour in their original format and layout including complete editorial content, graphics, advertising, classifieds and crossword puzzles. Mrs Whalley says there are heaps of options and flexibility within the programme, which can be accessed on any device.
“You can use a smartphone, tablet or laptop to access up to 90 days of back issues with no limits to how much you can read,” she says. “You also have the ability to print, email and share individual pages and stories. It’s a fantastic resource and I really encourage everyone to check it out – there’s so much to explore.”
To use PressReader, simply download the app, click the link on the library’s website or find Press Reader in your search engine. If you are in Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi, you will be automatically connected to the PressReader account. Otherwise, you can sign in with your library card details.
