Pride Whakatāne invites people who would like to help green our small part of the planet to join in a native tree planting morning at Ōhope Spit on Sunday, 19 August.
Green-fingered enthusiasts are asked to meet at the car park at the end of the road access into the Port Ōhope Reserve at 9.30am – bring a spade, gardening gloves and a water bottle – and bring along any friends, family or neighbours keen to be involved. Coffee and muffins will be provided at the end of the morning.
Meanwhile, Pride Whakatāne’s offer to provide fruit trees to worthy community groups and organisations is closing shortly. Any local group or organisation, including schools, preschools and kohanga reo, that would like to look forward to harvesting freshly-picked pears or juicy plums in a year or two is advised to email the Pride Whakatāne District Committee Secretary, Mrs Sandy Pryde, at prydeworms@xtra.co.nz with details about how they would benefit.
