A project to improve safety on Kōhī Point Lookout Road starts next week (subs 23 August, 2021) and is scheduled to be completed in early December.
Whakatāne District Council has contracted Waiotahi Contractors to seal Kōhī Point Lookout Road and construct a roadside-footpath.
Council Team Leader Capital Projects David Wathall says there will be an initial six-week day-time closure of the road to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to allow for the footpath construction. After which, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use the footpath.
The day-time closure of the road to motor vehicles will continue throughout the project. Access arrangements will be made with affected residents.
Mr Wathall is calling on understanding while the work is carried out. "We've contacted groups most impacted by the work and appeal to the public who use to the road to be patient with the temporary restrictions."
"The improvements will do away with dangerous corrugations in the current surface and slight realignment of the road will also improve safety," he concludes.
