Not-for-profit groups are being invited to apply for funding through Whakatāne District Council’s Annual Grants Scheme.
Previously successful applicants have sought funding for things like travel costs, conference fees, overheads, wages, and building lease costs.
Most community groups and voluntary organisations based in the district and providing a service to the public are eligible to apply for the grants, though sporting and cultural organisations are encouraged to seek funding from alternative sources such as SportNZ and Creative NZ.
Governance Manager Cindy Butt says the funding is limited so there is criteria to assist in ensuring the grants go where they’re most needed.
"Preference will be given to groups with a high volunteer base and groups that provide a community service for the residents of the district," she says.
A total of $7,000 is available for distribution in 2022/23.
Applications are open now and will close on 9 September. A sub-committee with three councillors will meet on 15 September to consider the applications and allocate the funds. Applicants will be notified of the decision within a week of that meeting.
Application forms are available from the annual grants page on our website.
Applications close at 5 pm on Friday, 9 September 2022. They can be emailed to Cherie.Tongariro@whakatane.govt.nz.
Partially completed applications will not be accepted.
