Date: Wednesday, 28 August 2024
Time: Between 9 pm and 2 am
Area impacted: Coastlands, Piripai, Shaw Road, The Hub, Gateway and Mill Road industrial areas, and other rural properties on the Whakatāne Water Scheme (see map below)
An emergency water supply interruption in Whakatāne west on Wednesday, 28 August, is happening to allow for the repair of a watermain under the Whakatāne Bridge.
The shutdown will affect all properties in Coastlands, Piripai, Shaw Road, The Hub, Gateway and Mill Road industrial areas, and other rural properties on the Whakatāne Water Scheme. The interruption will take place between 9 pm and 2 am.
Additionally, the walkway on the right-hand side of the Whakatāne Bridge (if you’re heading out of town) will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
However, traffic lanes and the other side of the walkway will remain open. Our team will assist kids who bike to school in safely crossing the road.
Before the water shutdown, residents are encouraged to fill their baths and containers with water for general and drinking use. Ensuring there is enough water stored to last through the interruption.
Once the water supply is restored, the Council advises running an outside tap for two to three minutes to clear any sediment and remove air from the lines before using indoor taps.
The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by this service disruption and appreciates your cooperation.
