The Whakatāne Boat Wash is now open, and to celebrate, using it is free for the month of July.
The new boat wash has been installed at the Whakatāne Boat Ramp and gives boaties an easier way to wash off their boats rather than using the garden hose.
Whakatāne District Council Assets and Operations - Ports and Airport Nikorima Broughton said rinsing off boats and trailers protects them from salt corrosion but also protects our roads too.
"By using the boat wash boaties will be protecting their prized possession and our roads at the same time.
"Believe it or not but all that saltwater dripping on the road actually breaks down the asphalt too which can be quite costly to repair.
"The boat wash should be an easier and more convenient way for boaties to rinse all that saltwater off before heading home with their catch."
To take advantage of the free use during July, boaties simply need to enter the code "2022" and then press the green tick at the boat wash.
