The Eastern Bay of Plenty Road Safety Programme aims to raise community awareness about road safety and work towards a safe road system throughout the region that is increasingly free of death and serious injury accidents.
The programme is a joint initiative run by the Whakatāne, Ōpōtiki and Kawerau District Councils and the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
Road safety activities are coordinated and managed by the Whakatāne District Council’s Community Development Advisor in collaboration with key stakeholders including the New Zealand Police, the NZ Transport Agency, ACC, and other community groups.
The programme’s road safety initiatives are delivered throughout the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
The Road Safety Action Plan - (PDF, 620 KB) sets the direction and strategy for road safety in the Eastern Bay for 2021-24.
