Aquatic Centre closes for scheduled maintenance 20–26 July

The Whakatāne Aquatic and Fitness Centre will be closed to the public for scheduled maintenance during the week of 20–26 July. This will allow for pools to be drained, cleaned and tiling repairs to be made. The installation of an upgraded water quality system will also commence, alongside the servicing of existing equipment.

Whakatāne District Council Manager Community Services, Paula Chapman, says that while the closure may be frustrating for regular users, it will provide the time required to carry out essential maintenance and upgrade work at the Aquatic and Fitness Centre facility. “We apologise to customers for any disruption to their planned fitness activities, but look forward to offering an improved level of service once this essential maintenance is completed.

“The closure has been timed to avoid the busy school holiday period, and falls in the first week of the new school term, to ensure that the impact on learn to swim programmes is minimised.”

Ms Chapman says the pools will be completely emptied for cleaning and any repairs that may need to be undertaken. “We will also take this opportunity to begin the installation of a new ultraviolet (UV) water disinfection system, and automatic dosing systems.

“The Fitness Centre will also receive an overhaul, with cleaning and maintenance work planned,” she says. “The gym equipment will be fully serviced and cleaned before being reinstated.”

Ms Chapman notes that the closure period also allows time for Aquatic and Fitness Centre staff to take part in training and team building activities.

The Aquatic Centre will be closed to the public from 20–26 July. The Fitness Centre will be closed to all users from 20–22 July and will reopen to members only from 23–26 July. Full services will resume from Monday, 27 July.
