Ōhope hill hotmix works address rough bends

The 380m-long ‘s-bend’ section of Ōhope hill, between Brown and Cliff Roads, will be resealed with hotmix over three nights this month, beginning on Tuesday, 19 February.

A hotmix surface is harder than standard bitumen and stone chip sealing and copes better with traffic speeds on tight corners. The new hotmix surfacing is therefore expected to provide improved driving conditions for the 9,500 vehicles which travel on Ōhope Road each day.

Application of the new seal was scheduled for late last year, but the project was delayed to allow the installation of a new water main along the road edge.

Work will be undertaken between 7pm and 6am each day, to minimise the impact on commuter traffic. Stop-go traffic control will apply at times, and motorists are asked to drive cautiously throughout the work period.
