TV Takeback teams up with Fire Service fundraisers

This Saturday, Whakatāne residents can make double the difference in a positive way. Whakatāne District Council and CReW have teamed up with the Whakatāne Fire Service to help people recycle their old TVs, raising money for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand at the same time.

On Saturday, 30 November, the Fire Service will be helping residents to recycle their old TVs at the Council Refuse Transfer Station in Te Tahi Street to fundraise for the Sky Tower Challenge in May 2014. Last year the team was the third-best fundraiser in the country, with a little over $17,000 raised.

Everyone can bring their old TVs in for recycling for just a $5 charge per television, ensuring they will be 100 percent re-used rather than going into a landfill.

With the switchover to digital television signal transmissions scheduled to take effect in this area on 1 December, this is the perfect opportunity to dispose of old TVs with minimal environmental impact.

Analogue televisions will still be usable after the digital switchover, provided their owners have a set-top decoder box and satellite dish or suitable aerial.
