Summer reading programme begins

Children aged five to 12 are invited to take part in the Summer Camping Reading Programme, Te Raumati – Te Puni – Te Panui, promoting books and reading. This free programme will run for four weeks from Monday 5 January to Thursday 29 January 2015 at the Whakatāne Horizon Energy Library and Murupara Library.

For those without a library card, this is also a great opportunity to join. Caregivers need to supply two forms of identification: a photo ID such as a driving licence or passport, and a phone bill or similar that shows the bearer’s name and current address.

Pre-registration opened on 15 December and ensures that a place will be available on the reading programme. Participants still need to come in on Registration Day, Monday 5 January, which is the official start of the programme, to complete the process and receive a programme folder with all of the information needed. Folders should be collected by Thursday 8 January at the latest.

A Challenge booklet containing puzzles, quizzes and library hunts and other activities will also be available at the Whakatāne Horizon Energy Library and the Ōhope, Edgecumbe, and Murupara Libraries. The booklet is specifically for children who do not wish to take part in the reading programme, but still want to be involved with their library over the summer holiday. No library card is required, but participants must live in the Whakatāne District.

So come to your local library for these awesome programmes, which are great fun and offer rewards for participants along the way.

There are also plans for a surprise celebration, so watch this space.
