Upgrade for Toi's Track delayed

Update 3 November 2016

Due to the need for an archaeological assessment, works that were originally planned to begin 3 November will now be delayed, with the intention to resume after Christmas 2016.

A further 1000 metres of the coastal section of Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Walkway is set to be upgraded. Work will be undertaken on the track between Ōtarawairere Bay and the Kōhī Point outlook, beginning around 3 November, and should be completed prior to the Toi’s Challenge event on 20 November.

Improvements will be made to drainage, track benching and box steps. The track will remain open, under caution, during the upgrade. Short-term local closures are likely to be required for helicopter operations, however, and the Whakatāne District Council is asking for the public’s cooperation to avoid any potential safety issues.
