Get ready for Lit-Fit

Get ready for Lit-Fit Getting fit is taking on a whole new meaning at the Horizon Energy Group Whakatāne Library, with fun sessions of an informative rather than physical nature planned for book lovers.

Library staff say this will be a case of exercising your love and knowledge of books, instead of any strenuous activity.

"Lit-Fit aims to pump up your literature fitness level, with monthly meetings starting on  Monday, 26 March," says Library Information Officer John McMenamin. "You could say it is a book club without really being a book club. There is no requirement to read specific books, just to share and hear about good reading in a relaxed forum."

Any interested adults are welcome to take part in the Lit-Fit 'workouts' being held in the library’s Little Orchard Room on the last Monday of each month. So get ready to build up and share your body of knowledge. For the first Lit-Fit meeting, participants are enouraged to stretch imaginations and flex their literary muscles.

"Come along and share your thoughts about your all-time favourite books, plus any current recommendations, or you can just listen in for now," Mr McMenamin says.

Each month will have a key theme to help energise participants' reading and power up their literary reserves. The first exercise to get Lit-FIT up and running will be: "What book/books would you absolutely recommend to a friend?" Mr McMenamin will offer reader advisory support and there will be a very flexible open forum session to complete the 'fitness' routine.

Expressions of interest are welcome, otherwise just turn up for Lit-Fit at the library on Monday, 26 March, from 11.15am to 12.15pm. No leotards required.
