Sunday Soundbites provides opportunity for budding musicians

If you like jamming in your own space and think you sound pretty good, then why not find out what others think? You may just be the next Dave Dobbyn, Lorde or Anika Moa…

The Horizon Energy Group Library at Te Kōputu is hosting a jam session, ‘Sunday Soundbites’, from 10:30am – 1:30pm on 27 May, to celebrate New Zealand Music Month.

Public Programmes Coordinator Anneke Philps says ‘Sunday Soundbites’ is about providing an opportunity for local music enthusiasts to perform live in a positive and encouraging environment.

“This is an opportunity for local talent to come along and belt out some good old Kiwi music. Budding musicians are invited to cover NZ classics, or perform their own music for the audience.

“We just want to have a few hours where we can celebrate Kiwi music and help local people to find their potential and see what they’re capable of,” she says. “Anyone else is welcome to join the audience and show their support for those who are giving it a go.”

If you have a few songs in your repertoire and would like to perform in a public space, then contact the staff at the Library to register your interest on 07 306 0509 or email library@whakatane.govt.nz. Spaces will be limited, so get in quick.
