Swimming stroke development sessions on offer

Swimmers keen to develop and improve their stroke skills are invited to participate in a technique training session at the Whakatāne Aquatic and Fitness Centre during the school holidays. Two one-hour sessions will be offered to swimmers at 8:30 am and 12:30 pm on Thursday, 3 October 2013, with participation costing just $5.00.

The sessions are for children and adults alike, with the only requirement being that attendees are capable of swimming 100 metres freestyle and 100 metres backstroke. The sessions will be hosted by two of the Centre’s instructors, who are both accredited coaches with Swimming New Zealand qualifications.

Whakatāne Aquatic and Fitness Centre Manager Sarah Clarke says it’s amazing how much you can improve your swimming style by breaking down the components of the stroke. “These skills sessions will offer a great opportunity for swimmers to understand the mechanics and dynamics behind their stroke,” she says. “Swimmers will also be able to see the benefits of a more efficient swimming style, and we’re planning on having a bit of fun in the process.”

With only two sessions available, spaces are limited, so anyone keen to attend will need to register their interest with the Centre’s staff before 3 October 2013. Registrations can be made by emailing learn2swim@whakatane.govt.nz or phoning the Whakatāne Aquatic and Fitness Centre on 07 308 4192.
