Fund opens for recreational water projects and activities

Local not-for-profit organisations, charitable trusts, and individuals involved with projects or activities directly related to recreational water use are invited to apply for funding from Whakatāne District Council.

Applications are now open for Te Pūaha Fund, an initiative which reflects Council’s commitment to supporting recreational water projects and activities that benefit Whakatāne District communities.

Team Leader Ports and Harbours Mark Read says the fund is part of Council’s commitment to enhancing the social, environmental, cultural, and economic wellbeing of the district.

“Te Pūaha Fund aims to provide financial support for projects and activities that encourage wide community participation and are directly related to water.”

He continues, “A total of thirty-thousand dollars is available for distribution for projects or activities that take place in or near designated waterways within Whakatāne District.”

Mr Read says priority will be given to projects that encourage wide community participation.

“This is a great opportunity for local individuals or groups to receive funding for something like Waka Ama equipment or water safety classes for tamariki.”
