Holiday activities at Te Kōputu

Dynamic wife and husband team Mary Kippenberger and Peter Charlton-Jones return to Whakatāne next week with their spell-binding combination of storytelling, performance and music.

The Hawke’s Bay-based duo will perform a free show at Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi – Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre at 1 pm Wednesday, 1 October.

Te Kōputu Public Programmes Officer Anneke Philps says many people will remember Mary and Peter from their performance at the 2012 Summer Reading Programme finale.

“This time around they will be combining fairytales, pantomime, slightly wicked songs, costumes and interactive storytelling in a delightful family-friendly show entitled ‘Rhubarb’."

Other “Spring into Summer” school holiday activities include story-time sessions at both Ōhope and Edgecumbe Libraries from 10:30 – 11 am on Friday, 10 October, and challenge booklets available from all Whakatāne District Libraries and on the library website, containing fun activities for children to complete in their own time.

A range of self-directed arts-based activities and resources will also be available in the Little Orchard Activity Room at Te Kōputu during the holiday week-days. The activities are designed for children up to Year 8 and can be enjoyed with the supervision of a caregiver.
