Whakatāne District Council is committed to helping young people get more involved in community decision-making, learn about how Council works and feel empowered and capable as leaders to take control of their future.
Help shape your future with the Whakatāne District Youth Council
Applications for the 2025 Youth Council are now open!
What's in it for you?
This is an opportunity to make connections with rangatahi from across the district. You’ll use your voice to advocate for your peers and advise Council on youth matters while developing your leadership skills. There will be opportunities to be mentored by leaders in our community, get involved in community events and contribute to projects. Plus, it will look great on your CV!
Other benefits from joining include
- Signed certificate from the Mayor
- Learn meeting skills
- Take part in Council and Community Board meetings
- Professional development opportunities.
This year we’ll be holding more of the Youth Council meetings online, but there will also be lots of opportunities for face-to-face mahi.
The commitment
- Attend/run meetings online and in-person – dates and times to be determined at first meeting
- Be open to learning and doing new things – embrace leadership opportunities
- Be your authentic, awesome, enthusiastic self.
Whakatāne District Youth Council is open to rangatahi aged 14-24 who live in our district.
