Fire and Emergency New Zealand works hard at ensuring the District is as safe as possible from fire. The Fire Authority asks that you act responsibly around fire and that you call 111 immediately if you see any suspicious smoke.
Items you should never burn
- Chemicals
- Materials that can produce toxic gases when burnt
- Food waste
- Metals
- Paints, varnishes, etc
- Animal carcasses
- Pesticides
- Plastics
- Rubber–including tyres and items which contain rubber and plastic, such as old furniture
- Treated timber
- Waste oil or petroleum products
