To apply for a resource consent, you’ll need to complete the appropriate forms. These are listed below under the categories of consents and are available as editable PDFs, which are also suitable for printing and completing by hand.
You can lodge your application with Council by:
- Applying online - the online form is available on each of the different resource consent pages linked below
- Emailing it to us at planning@whakatane.govt.nz
- Delivering your application to any of our Council offices in person

If you are proposing to lodge your application online, you will still need to provide a copy of the appropriate form(s) as part of your application. All your documentation should be in one file for uploading. If your file is larger than ten megabytes (10 MB), please talk to the duty planner on 07 306 0500 so that alternate arrangements for electronic lodgement can be made.
Please note:
- Under the Section 88(3) of the Act, we have 10 working days to reject an application if it has insufficient detail to process the application.
- Council will not commence processing of your application until it has received all the required information, including payment of the applicable fee or deposit.
