This section outlines the committee structure adopted by Council and appointments of Councillors to outside organisations.  Also included is information on the Triennial Agreement with other Councils in the Bay of Plenty region.

The Triennial Agreement sets out the protocols for communication and co-ordination amongst the councils during the triennium.

The Council can delegate most of its duties, powers and responsibilities to a committee, community board, member or officer of the Council.

Our Code of Conduct provides guidance on the standards of behaviour expected from elected members of the Whakatāne District Council.

Elections of members of local authorities are held once every three years, voting has finished for the 2019 local election.

In late 2017, Council considered and voted in favour of introducing Māori Wards in the District. The Council has now received a petition demanding that a poll of electors be undertaken on the decision, which will trigger a referendum on the issue.

Election day for the 2016–19 triennium was Saturday, 8 October 2016.
