If there are roadworks happening in your neighbourhood, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Please contact us if you have any questions or want to discuss anything further.
Weather conditions
Road works are weather-dependent. If the weather is unsuitable or there are other unforeseen circumstances, the work could be delayed.
Chipseal is sticky
The materials we use to reseal your road consist of a sticky black substance called bitumen. Where you can, please avoid recently resealed areas and remove your shoes before going inside or getting into your vehicle. If you need advice on removing bitumen from surfaces, please contact us.
Chipseal is not smooth
There will be loose chips (stones) that take time to orientate and embed into the bitumen. These chips will be swept within the first week of placement and a second sweep done a couple of weeks after. Some chip may continue to dislodge, but will settle down with time.
Will we be back?
Yes, we will be back to repaint road markings and sweep the road to remove the excess stone chips. This is generally done within 48 hours of the initial work and if required, within the month after the chipseal has been laid. Ongoing monitoring of excess loose chip is carried out weekly for the first month and then monthly for up to six months, then yearly. Please note - loose chip is to be expected while the new surface beds in, which can take up to one year.
Please ensure your vehicle is parked clear of the worksite
To make sure we can do the work properly, we need the site to be clear of vehicles and other obstructions, so parking will be affected. We will do our best to minimise disruption as much as possible, but please ensure your vehicle is parked clear of the work area. If your vehicle is parked in the way, we may have to tow it to a suitable park nearby. Should your vehicle be moved and not returned to its original location, please check nearby streets first before contacting the contractor doing the works.
What access will be available during this time?
Road closure traffic management will be in place and will restrict vehicle access. Limited resident vehicle access will be available - please follow the directions of our crew when passing through the work site.
Will road works affect access to my property?
Residents and/or business owners will generally have access to their property, and you should have received a letter with details about specific works and access. In the case of an emergency, essential services will be given priority. If you are expecting a delivery or have a tradesperson needing access, we will navigate them through the work site. Rubbish collection and recycling will continue as usual.
After-care
Please maintain the temporary speed limit – loose stone chips are to be expected on the road for a few days. Driving too fast will flick loose stone chips from the road and / or may damage the new seal. Initially, to avoid overturning or dragging of stones chips, please drive carefully in and out of your driveway/on-street parking this will assist in the performance of the seal.
