Stormwater infrastructure in the Maraetotara East area of Ōhope is to receive a major upgrade with the installation of a new stormwater reticulation system. The work is scheduled to begin on 3 October 2016 and will be undertaken by Waiotahi Contractors.

The inaugural Oxfam Trailwalker in Whakatāne helped raise nearly $1 million for great causes and despite some ‘challenging’ weather was hailed a success by organisers and participants alike. Oxfam New Zealand is now preparing to do it all again in 2017, and to get the ball rolling they are hosting an information evening in cooperation with Whakatāne District Council.

There has been a large slip onto the Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Walkway between Ōhope and Ōtarawairere Bay. Due to the hazardous nature of the slip, the amount of slip material and partial loss of safety barriers, this section of track is now fully closed until further notice.
