The Council’s Public Places Bylaw has been reviewed and was made available for community consultation. 

Public Places Bylaw

Public places are used for a diverse range of activities by a diverse range of people. The Council encourages the use of public places by the community and by visitors. It also endeavours to create and maintain public places and spaces for the public’s enjoyment.

Unregulated activities in public places can result in damage, public nuisance, and can compromise public safety. The Public Places Bylaw aims to mitigate the risk of unregulated activities in public places impacting adversely on the safety of other users, causing damage, or creating nuisance as a result of anti-social behaviour.

An important part of this bylaw review process is finding out what you think. We have produced an information pack which seeks your feedback on the reviewed bylaw, including new rules around camping and overnight parking by self-contained vehicles.

Public participation

Any interested person or organisation was able to make a submission to the Whakatāne District Council on any matters included in the Public Places Bylaw. All submitters will have an opportunity to be heard by the Council at hearings to be held in December 2015 in the Council Chambers, Civic Centre, Commerce Street, Whakatāne.
