Boil water notice for Rūātoki

Update 1 September 1 pm

The Rūātoki supply has now been tested three consecutive times and been given the all clear to remove the boil water notice.

The tanker will remain in place till later today in case anybody doesn’t hear the notice and wants to collect some drinking water, but Rūātoki residents can now use water from the tap for drinking and food preparation.

The boil water notice applying to the Rūātoki water supply is likely to stay in place at least until the weekend, as three consecutive clear tests are required once the river water discolouration clears up. The water is chlorinated, and we’re testing it daily to monitor progress.

In the meantime, there will be a tanker filled with drinking water available at the Rūātoki Kura from 10 am tomorrow (Thursday), and it will remain in place until the boil water notice is lifted. Anyone wanting water can help themselves.

The Rūātoki reservoir has now refilled, so there’s no need to take any further conservation measures.

The Ministry of Health recommends boiling water for a minimum of three minutes before consuming it.

The Whakatāne District Council apologises for any inconvenience experienced.
