The Inaugural Council meeting will be held on Friday, 25 October 2019 in the Council Chambers, Civic Centre, Commerce Street, Whakatāne. 

The programme is as follows:

1 pm - a Pōhiri will be held in Margaret Mahy Court to welcome the Incoming Mayor and Councillors.  This will be followed by afternoon tea.
3 pm - Commencement of the Inaugural Council meeting to:

• receive the Electoral Officer’s election results 
• undertake the swearing in of the Mayor and Councillors 
• hear the Mayoral Address 
• appoint the Deputy Mayor, and Councillors to Community Boards 
• fix the time and date of the first Council meeting
• provide legislative advice to the incoming Council
• pass a resolution of appreciation to retiring elected Members
