Whakatāne’s Hillcrest Cemetery will hold an open day on Thursday, 6 April 2017 as part of New Zealand Cemeteries Week. This event aims to help demystify death and portray cemeteries as places for people to connect with each other, their communities and their families, as well their histories, heroes and loved ones.
The Hillcrest Cemetery open day will run from 1:15 pm to 4:30 pm and will include:
- Overviews of services provided by Whakatāne’s funeral directors
- An introduction to the Hillcrest Cemetery team
- Presentations by the Coffin Club, Pou Whakaro and the Whakatāne Geneology Group
- A tour of the Chapel
- A look at the day in the life of a sexton
The event will finish with a question and answer session.
Interested members of the public are invited to meet at the Hillcrest Cemetery Chapel just prior to the commencement of the event at 1:15 pm.
