The Whakatāne District Council is seeking expressions of interest for an Events Manager for the Whakatāne War Memorial Hall, Ōhope Hall and the Whakatāne Visitor Centre in order to enhance the ability to promote these venues and attract greater use. “We’d like to be able to offer a full events service, particularly for conference and business events, which require a level of ‘hands-on’ coordination that we currently don’t provide. There is potential to attract more conferences from outside the area once we have this in place,” says Promotions Officer Nicola Burgess.
The Whakatāne District Council will continue to provide venue bookings, billing for venue hire and the provision of a Hall Custodian but is calling for submissions to select a preferred supplier to offer an Events Management service to follow up bookings and facilitate events that require more than a basic level of service.
The Events Manager will not be an employee of the Council and will deal with external parties and event organisers under their own business entity. The agreement is non-exclusive, and other event organisers are still able to use the facility as per the current process.
Submissions of interest are now being accepted. The closing deadline is 5 pm on Friday, 27 February, and interviews will be held in March 2015.
