Internationally recognised community organiser to speak in Whakatāne

Cultivating Our Community: Jim Diers will speak at the Whakatane Little Theatre Tuesday, 25 March from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.Eastern Bay of Plenty residents and community groups will have the opportunity to hear internationally-recognised “community builder” Jim Diers when he visits Whakatāne later this month.

Mr Diers has built a reputation for getting people engaged with their communities and in the decisions that affect them. He is an advocate for the power of neighbourhoods and has a track record in practical policy development and implementation which has leveraged thousands of projects and built social capital.  

His presentation will be held in the Little Theatre at the Whakatāne War Memorial Hall from 5:30 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, 25 March.

Mr Diers currently teaches courses in community organising and development at the University of Washington. He travels internationally to raise awareness of community engagement and collaboration, present workshops, and provide technical assistance to community associations, non-profit organisations and government about how to build closer, more vibrant communities.

The presentation is being held in association with Neighbours Day Aotearoa, which will be held on 29-30 March.
