Kapa Haka group to welcome medallist

The Whakatāne High School Kapa Haka Group are confirmed to perform at the parade to honour gold medallist Lisa Carrington. The parade will be held on Monday, 19 September and will begin at the Whakatāne Visitor Information Centre at midday and progress down The Strand and Richardson Street to Margaret Mahy Court by the Civic Centre.

Members of the Whakatāne Kayak Club and Surf Life Saving Club will be a part of the parade, and it will be welcomed at Margaret Mahy Court by a powhiri and His Worship the Mayor Tony Bonne. The event is also supported by Radio 1XX and Sun FM, who will both be taking part in the parade. Ms Carrington will also speak, but the public are advised that due to time restrictions she will be unable to sign autographs or pose for individual photographs.

Those wishing to celebrate and welcome home Ms Carrington should line The Strand from 11:45 am. The parade will start at 12 pm and conclude at Margaret Mahy Court by 12:20. The public are also invited to attend the Civic Centre ceremony, and it is expected that the event will be concluded by 1 pm.
