New advertising screens lighting up Locky Docks

In partnership with Trust Horizon, Whakatāne District Council is excited to announce the addition of advertising screens to some of the district’s Locky Dock stations.

New Zealand made Locky Docks are free, secure parking and charging stations for bikes and e-bikes. Team Leader Transport Strategy & Assets Joe Metcalfe says the stations have been a game-changer in promoting sustainable transport across Whakatāne District.

“A total of 1,373 bikes (and counting!) have been docked over the past year across the Whakatāne network of five Locky Dock stations.”

Joe continues, “We’re really encouraged to see that people are choosing active transport, and not only improving their health, but they’re also reducing carbon emissions, easing traffic congestion, and freeing up parking spaces – and with the comfort of knowing their bike is secured while unattended.”

Joe says the recent installation of digital screens adjacent to some stations offer a new outdoor platform for community messages, while also providing the opportunity for local businesses to advertise.

“Council will have dedicated media time on the screens for announcements and promotions, adding another communication platform to our channels to ensure information reaches as many people as possible.”

He continues, “In addition, paid advertising from local businesses keeps the use of Locky Docks completely free.”

Digital screens have been installed outside Robert Harris, Caroline Eve on The Strand and at Mahy Reserve at Ōhope Beach.

The Locky Docks and digital screens have been made possible thanks to Trust Horizon, Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency and Whakatāne District Council.
