Mayor Tony Bonne has authorised the extension of the local transition period over Whakatāne District owing to the flooding and widespread damage as a result of the extreme rainfall event generated by tropical storm Debbie.

This extension of the transition period:

• Comes into force immediately before 12 pm on 19 May 2017, which is when the current transition period ends
• Is in force for 28 days
• Ends at 12 pm on 16 June 2017, unless terminated or further extended earlier
