Parks Week 2018 over but Mataatua Reserve still 'Magical'

Mataatua Reserve with Magical Park Signage Parks Week 2018 is officially over, but kids still have the opportunity to experience the Magical Park at Mataatua Reserve until Sunday, 25 March. The augmented reality game designed for 6-11 year-olds is playable on most smartphones and combines fun outdoor play with technology.

Download the ‘Magical Park’ app from the Google Play or App Store and head down to the Mataatua Reserve to enjoy the full experience, which includes growing a magic forest or roaming with life-sized robots.

Whakatāne District Council Community Services General Manager Mike Naude says Parks Week is a great opportunity to celebrate our open spaces. “Throughout the year, our parks provide a perfect venue for so many activities, from community markets and sports days to major events. Parks Week provides a great excuse to get out and appreciate them. Thanks to some key people and organisations, we did just that.”

This year, 10 successful events were held during Parks Week, in partnership with Sports Bay of Plenty, Apanui School, Tom Bayliss, REAP Whakatāne, Val Campbell, Jane Steane, EBOP Model Engineers Society, Whakatāne & Murupara Library Staff and the Whakatāne District Council.

More information about the Magical Park experience can be found on their website.
