Whakatāne District Council advises there is an unplanned water shutdown in the areas shown above. Staff and contractors are working to rectify this issue as soon as possible.

After the water supply is restored, please be advised that mains flushing will be carried out to remove any entrapped air or sediment in the line. In cases where your private pipes are old and/or rusted (e.g. galvanised iron pipe), as a precaution, we advised that you run your outside tap for at least 2-3 minutes to dislodge any sediment and remove entrapped air in your lines prior to opening any inside taps.  If the water appears milky continue to flush lines until this clears, this is caused by pockets of air becoming compressed and entering the water. This is perfectly safe.
