We're practicing our #TsunamiHīkoi

#TsunamiHīkoi Promotion image Council staff and Emergency Management Bay of Plenty (EMBOP) are organising a Tsunami Hīkoi to encourage people to prepare for evacuation to higher ground should natural signals (prolonged earthquake) occur or a tsunami alert be given.

The Tsunami Hīkoi will be held on Wednesday, 13 March 2019 to coincide with the national Tsunami Hīkoi.

The first Hikoi will be at 1pm, targeting schools to participate, and there will be a second at 5.30 pm.

The hīkoi will start from Wharaurangi and end at Waiewe Camellia Park where Council and EMBOP staff will have information packs, draft evacuation plans, and be on hand to help you create an evacuation plan.

There will also be spot prizes and a BBQ

Date: Wednesday, 13 March
Time: 1.30 pm and 5.30 pm
From: Wharaurangi - The Strand Whakatāne
To: Waiewe St Reserve, Hillcrest, Whakatāne

The event will be postponed to the following Wednesday (20 March) if raining.
