The Endless Thread is an annual showcase of award-winning fibre crafts from around the Bay of Plenty. The Whakatāne Fibre Crafters hosted this year’s competition, giving judge Nynke Piebenga – a Waikato weaver - the challenge of choosing winners across seven categories and more than 150 entries.

Results from the judicial recount for the Galatea-Murupara Ward of the Whakatāne District Council were released today following a tie of votes at the triennial election.

Whakatāne District road users will notice new road markings on several streets in the area during the coming months. As part of the Active Whakatāne initiative, Whakatāne District Council will be applying 'sharrows' to urban streets with low traffic volumes to encourage shared use on our roads.

Remediation options for the safe swimming facility at Wairaka Centennial Park will be reviewed in consultation with key community groups and representatives, following recommendations adopted by Council at its 18 September 2019 meeting.

Council undertakes the survey every year to gauge how residents perceive its key services, facilities, elected representatives and staff. The survey for 2018/19 has the highest average levels of satisfaction and the lowest average levels of dissatisfaction since 2013/14.
