With voting packs for the 2022 Whakatāne District Election arriving in mailboxes from tomorrow (Friday, 16 September), residents and ratepayers across the rohe are being encouraged to tick off three important steps; vote, pack and drop off.

The results of the Whakatāne District Council’s latest annual residents’ survey have shown a solid improvement in the community’s perceptions of several Council services and activities.

A community-led and Council-supported research document exploring the causes and effects of homelessness and severe housing deprivation in our District is a critical new resource that will be used to determine future responses to these complex social issues.

Some of the winding corners on Thornton Road will be eased as Whakatāne District Council starts major safety improvements on the busy road.

Not-for-profit groups are being invited to apply for funding through Whakatāne District Council’s Annual Grants Scheme.

Previously successful applicants have sought funding for things like travel costs, conference fees, overheads, wages, and building lease costs.

Most community groups and voluntary organisations based in the district and providing a service to the public are eligible to apply for the grants, though sporting and cultural organisations are encouraged to seek funding from alternative sources such as SportNZ and Creative NZ.

Now the Innovating Streets trial is over, Whakatāne District Council is planning to remove the features that didn’t work and make the ones that did work permanent.
