Paku Kore Wild Food Festival

A group of business students from Ruatāhuna are hosting a wild food festival on 14 November 2015 to highlight sustainability and get some real world applications for their studies.

The Paku Kore Wild Food Festival will be held at the Te Umuroa Marae, beginning with a Whakatau at 9:30 am, and will continue throughout the day. Janet Taiatini of the Paku Kore Wild Food Festival committee says there will be plenty to see and do for all the family.

"There will be horse rides, egg and spoon races, bouncy castles and much, much more, as well as live music and speakers throughout the day," she says. "There will also be plenty of bush tucker like venison, possum and pikopiko, and each hapū in the valley will be competing in a Master Chef-style cook-off over open fires, to be judged by our very own Joe McLoud from Māori TV.”

Miss Taiatini says there will also be local crafts and produce on sale, and that interested stallholders could still book a site. “It costs $50.00 for a stall, and people are encouraged to register now with Janet. Tent sites for those wanting to stay overnight can also be arranged.”
