Vehicles travelling to and from Whakatāne’s CBD on Hillcrest Road will be diverted via Seaview Road for a 12-week period from Monday, 13 June while road repair works are carried out.
The works are being carried out by contractors Tracks Concrete and will include slope stabilisation work through reinforced earth walls, granular pavement construction and concrete footpath with kerb and channel construction.
Whakatāne District Council Infrastructure General Manager, Tomasz Krawczyk, says a detour for all traffic and pedestrians will be in place along Seaview Road. “Hillcrest Road will be closed between 30 Hillcrest Road and Waiewe Street, and access to Waiewe Street will remain open at all times.”
"Hillcrest Road is a highly-used route between Mokorua/Ōhope and the downtown CBD areas, so we apologise for any inconvenience caused during this period," Mr Krawczyk says. “The overall impact on travel times should be relatively minor, though motorists should note that the Seaview Road detour is a narrower route, so motorists should take care when taking this diversion.”
