Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi – the Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre – is now offering free Beginners Computer Skills sessions as part of a cooperative partnership between the Whakatāne District Libraries, Eastbay Rural Education Activities Programme (REAP) and the 2020 Communications Trust.
Tangimeriana Rua, Team Leader Library Services, says the programme is a fantastic opportunity for people to upskill themselves, and feedback from participants has been very positive.
“REAP is providing a tutor and the use of 10 laptops,” she says, “and the Library provides the space and two staff to support the programme during the weekly sessions, plus additional support outside of the programme as part of our usual staff duties. Mastering basic computer skills is essential in our modern world, but getting up to speed on a computer can incur sizeable tuition costs. This programme is funded with the support of the 2020 Communications Trust, so there is no cost to participants.”
The programme runs until Wednesday, 7 December 2016, with two sessions each Wednesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and midday to 2 pm.
